The British heavyweight doubled down on his much-discussed remarks about wanting to “kill” Jake Paul during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.

These statements were originally stated on the previous day when Joshua was questioned if he would show restraint against Paul, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has attracted criticism over the risk involved and the physical disparity between the two competitors.

Tyson Fury Labels AJ a “Disgrace”

Ex- world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury called Anthony Joshua a “classless loser” for his extreme rhetoric.

But Joshua, explained his stance: “This is my profession, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I understand many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I take pleasure in what I do. Whatever happens, happens - as long as my hand is raised, that's what's important, with all due respect.”

He continued, “That's just the mindset we have to have as fighters. I don't know if other fighters think that way. Maybe they're a bit more reserved. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a perilous thing. Anything can happen.”

“You hope your adversary leaves the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Paul's Incendiary Response

Jake Paul, a massive underdog in the heavyweight contest as a career cruiserweight, was no less incendiary in his response.

“This is a contemporary gladiator sport,” he stated. “I'm prepared. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all said and done. We should kill each other.”

Joshua will face Paul, in his twenties, at Miami's arena in a fight many consider a glaring mismatched contest, with some arguing it should have been approved as an exhibition bout.

The official fight will be contested over 8 three-minute rounds using regular 10oz gloves, with a stipulated weight limit for Joshua.

Joshua Claims He Was “Called In to Rescue” The Sport

Despite the extreme terminology used, the fighter suggested he has been “called in to save” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul phenomenon and I comprehend it and that's why I have to carry the sport on my back in this bout,” he concluded.

The news conference also had more humorous moments, with AJ laughing as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The surreal nature of this fight has led to rumors about its legitimacy, including claims that he may be restricted from knocking Paul out.

“There's nothing in the agreement, AJ can confirm it. We're going to war,” Paul insisted.

The former champion, wearing a expensive necklace, humorously remarked, “The only thing in the contract that got my interest was the purse.”

Paul has claimed on social media that the fight earnings will be extremely large.
