Liverpool's Manager Provides No Excuses and Vows to Plot Route From Slump

Liverpool's head coach declared he had to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool endured a 6th loss in 7 English top-flight matches on their own turf against Forest and insisted he would find a way from the champions’ slump.

Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, produced the largest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as Liverpool slipped to an eighth defeat in eleven matches in all competitions. The British record signing, Alexander Isak, was again unnoticeable and Liverpool argued the defender's opener ought to have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's disallowed effort versus Manchester City before the international break. But Slot conceded the responsibility stopped with him and made no excuses.

“No one wants to listen to me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” said the Reds' boss. “I ought to examine myself first and my squad, but it does show you how a score can change the momentum of a game. Before I was just hoping for us to score a strike. Afterwards we hardly generated any chances.

“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the talented footballers we have. Regardless if you win or are beaten when you reflect you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, where can we adjust?’ but that is something else from questioning yourself.

“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the present defeats. You are responsible when you are victorious but also liable when you are losing. I can not provide sufficient reasons for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s display fell apart as Slot made several offensive substitutions when chasing the match. “It was the same on the road at Nottingham Forest last season,” he said. “I took Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] off and brought on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. Then it was courageous, currently it’s probably unwise.”

Liverpool last lost two successive home Premier League fixtures by Forest in the sixties. The last time they lost back-to-back league matches by a 3-0 margin was in 1965.

Slot commented: “It was extremely poor. Competing at home, losing 3-0 no matter which team you face is a very, very bad outcome. Unexpected if you consider the first half-hour of the game. I haven’t seen us creating so many chances in the opening 30 minutes maybe the entire campaign, and the first time they entered in our penalty area they scored.

“It did not happen at City, but in every other game we have been the controlling side and were able to generate chances. Lately it is almost consistently that we fail to convert our chances and the attempts we concede find the net.”
