New Details Emerge About the Finding of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Remains
Recent details have emerged about the tragic deaths of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Los Angeles home home on Sunday.
The Initial Report
A source indicates quoting a family associate, a practitioner scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the house. The therapist then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
After gaining access to the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Another individual who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Subsequently, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Developments
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now detained without bail.
Correcting the Record
The confidential informant questioned several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.
Additionally disputed published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "concerned" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation applies to descriptions of reportedly "unstable" behavior by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.
Ongoing Inquiry Timeline
Per law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports suggested the condition of their bodies suggested they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
