The President Calls Families of Attacked Guard Personnel to the White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the executive mansion.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy caused the administration to halt refugee claims and cease providing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on the program that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
